"Rather than her usual sharp edges and cutting mic drops, Louise Glück speaks in softer voices in her first post-Nobel collection. “I try to comfort you,” she writes, “but words are not the answer.” And yet there is an unlikely kind of comfort here, as well as a kind of dark resolve, the knowledge that luck and joy are always fleeting – “I threw some snow over my shoulder/ since I had no salt.” As ever, Glück is good company, or at least honest company. Reading her, I feel much less alone."
