"The narrator of Want is in a relatable rut, exhausted by the grind of late-stage capitalism. She has a Ph.D. but can’t get a tenure-track job; she and her husband sleep in the closet of the tiny Brooklyn apartment they share with two young daughters; and they are filing for bankruptcy to get out from under their debt. Where another kind of book would see its narrator fold into herself, Want explores the ramifications of pushing for more than what we’ve been relegated to.
