SuperMutant Magic Academy

"Jillian Tamaki published her Web comic about a school for kids with superpowers/mutant abilities/magic for years, and no one would blame you for worrying that once collected, its one-off, gag-strip format might make for disjointed, herky-jerky reading. But then, Tamaki’s never been one to lunge sweatily for a punch line; she’s much more interested in mood and character, and if she happens to find a joke along the way: bonus. As a result, the collected strip reads like a discursive (and deeply sardonic) YA novel in which characters discover themselves at the same gradual pace readers do."
