Greta Helsing inherited her family's highly specialized and highly peculiar medical practice. In her consulting rooms, Dr. Helsing treats the undead for a host of ills - vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. Although she barely makes ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta's been groomed for since childhood. "This year, there seems to be a mini-trend of women reworking classic horror and science fiction tropes, and Strange Practice is my favorite of the bunch. Dr. Greta Helsing (she has ditched the “van”), granddaughter to the famous doctor in Dracula, has her own medical practice in modern-day London. But rather than hunting vampires, she is curing earaches for ghouls and modeling new toes for decrepit mummies – until something starts killing off Londoners, both human and otherwise. A delightful ensemble mystery featuring some of literature’s favorite vampires (and one really great demon)."
