"Assistant-boss romance blooms despite a power imbalance. Rumors of a relationship are so deafening they almost prevent the real thing from growing. One half of the couple is tough and inscrutable where the other is warmly expressive. These are all tropes you’ve encountered before – but here, in Meryl Wilsner’s Something to Talk About, they are realized with such freshness, specificity and nuance that even before you factor in both halves of the main couple being women, it’s evident you’re dealing with an unusually delightful story. Am I only recommending this novel on such a large platform to make a Lucy Liu/Merritt Wever film adaptation more likely? PERHAPS. But once you’ve read it, when you’ve read it, I cannot imagine that you’ll blame me."
