"If you are in the mood for damn good writing but don’t have time to commit to a long novel, consider reading Leesa Cross-Smith’s latest short story collection. She is a gifted storyteller with an economical approach, and has written the most well-observed slices of girlhood and womanhood that I have read in years. She also plays with form – for example, “Girlheart Cake With Glitter Frosting” reads like a recipe. I am a picky short story reader, but this collection floored me."
