"Jen Wang’s The Prince and the Dressmaker is a delight from start to finish. When Frances is hired to be a mysterious client’s personal designer, she doesn’t expect her client to be Prince Sebastian. But she promises to design dresses for his secret identity, Lady Crystallia, and keep his most precious secret. Wang’s story is lively, her characters are three-dimensional and expressive, each immediately lovable. Of course, Crystallia wears lots and lots of beautiful garments, all so full of movement, you can practically hear the swish of fabric. Frances and Sebastian’s paths aren’t easy, but Wang handles their desires and motivations — and gender fluidity — with ease and joy."
