"I picked this book up about 7:30 p.m. one Tuesday and was transported – taken on a riveting journey into self, cultural identity and the challenges of leaving a life behind to start over in a new country. This book particularly appealed to me as a black woman who too has traversed the immigrant and academic landscape of this country, and who too had a traumatic relationship with a parent. The moments of confusion and reflection, the search for answers, validation, acceptance, hope and ultimately lessons of love were beyond palpable when I turned that last page – four hours after I first entered Tope Folarin’s world."
