"This is an 11th century romp but with stolen, maybe mystical, bones: An earnest monk dreams of St. Nicholas, thinking he’s directing him to minister to those suffering from a pox in Bari. The monk’s bosses say “Nope!” and decide to use his dream to serve their goal of bringing (stealing, filching, nicking) the saint’s remains from Myra, across the Mediterranean (saints’ bones will cure a pox and boost tourism, you know). Enter the relic hunters and their boat, off goes the earnest monk to see the dubious mission through, and so begins a comic adventure that’s complete with swashbuckling, sharp banter and successful flirting."
