New People

"A lot of times, with certain hot-button political issues, it feels like we’re saying the same things over and over again. I feel this way especially about race, an issue the whole country seems to talk in circles about, over and over again. That’s why I so loved Danzy Senna’s New People. It made me think about race in a way I never have before: of race as performance, regardless of our identities; of this idea that we all “pass” for something every day, whether we’re white, black, brown or something in between. And on top of that, New People functions as a truly delectable satirical suspense thriller. You’ve gotta read it."
