"Set in Japan, My Brother’s Husband follows Yaichi, whose life is upended by a visit from Mike Flanagan, his estranged – now deceased – brother’s husband. Mike is clearly grieving his loss, but at first, Yaichi’s discomfort with homosexuality prevents the two men from connecting. But the longer Mike hangs around, the more Yaichi is forced to question the reasons behind his discomfort. Writer and artist Gengoroh Tagame is perhaps best known for his gay erotic comics, and some of that shows here – men’s bodies are lovingly rendered on the page – but My Brother’s Husband isn’t explicit. It’s a quiet and tender examination of grief and the slow process toward understanding and acceptance of differences."
