"These poems, with electric brilliance, speak fiercely as they straddle various borders, especially the one between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, where Natalie Scenters-Zapico grew up – and where “Life is short & I show them how to talk / to police without opening the door.” She crosses aesthetic and linguistic borders as well, spanning the supposed divides between traditional and experimental, English and Spanish.
