I Am Every Good Thing

"After the success of Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, Derrick Barnes and Gordon C. James have reunited for a book full of empowering affirmations for their Black sons. In I Am Every Good Thing, young boys are compared to the center of a cinnamon roll, Saturday mornings in the summertime, a perfect paper airplane. Written like a poem, the book gradually grows more serious, ending with an unfortunately much-needed reminder: “I am worthy of success, / of respect, of safety, of kindness, of happiness … I am worthy / to be loved.” (For ages 3 to 7)"
