In a lengthy collection written half during Donald Trump’s first years and half during the COVID-19 pandemic (“weeks into it, changed little, though / more people were cleaning their own houses”), Hillman speaks like an amplified inner life, an intimate friend, a conscience. “i thought of not voting but there isn’t time,” she writes, and I’m grateful for dispatches from someone who thinks that way."
