"It will take you only an hour or two to read this graphic memoir, even if you stop on every page to admire Yugoslavian-Canadian artist Nina Bunjevac’s crosshatched handiwork. And what a story she has to tell: When Bunjevac was 2, her mother moved her and her sister back to Yugoslavia to escape Bunjevac’s father, whose involvement with a Serbian nationalist terrorist group ultimately led to his death in an accidental explosion. The book follows Bunjevac as she tries to better understand her father. I will admit the story isn’t exactly happy, but it will stay with you for days — or months, in my case."
