Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles

"This deeply odd six-issue miniseries stars Snagglepuss (yep, that one) as a gay Southern playwright in the ‘50s – Tennessee Williams, basically – under investigation by the House Un-American Activities Committee. His friend and confidant is Huckleberry Hound (a William Faulkner stand-in, because why not?). It’s such a weird idea on its (fuzzy-wuzzy) face that you could be forgiven for expecting the series to simply lunge for cheap laughs, but the more you read, the more a real, textured melancholy descends. Mark Russell and Mike Feehan place you in that place and time, and you watch lives and careers being destroyed. One of the year’s most surprising – and surprisingly wrenching – comics."
