"The shoe is a house shaped like a boot, the old lady is really a young lady who has nowhere else to go. Evie is just maintaining when a housing crisis leads to mass evictions in New York City, and she has to seek shelter from a distant Texas relative she’s never met. People interrupt her life in the boot, popping in for shoe repair. This story takes a mad, zany, surrealist turn midway as Evie falls in love with a key master, takes up cobbling and meets talking animals on a quest to rescue her sister from an asylum. It had me gleefully chuckling all the way to the last page."
