"On vacation in 2004, Vivian Chong, a Canadian graphic artist, fell ill. Her boyfriend gave her ibuprofen to treat her condition, which triggered the horrific symptoms of TEN – toxic epidermal necrolysis – a severe allergic reaction that caused Chong’s skin to peel off. She suffered multiple skin grafts, as well as gradual blindness and loss of hearing because of scar tissue buildups in her corneas and eardrums. As Chong’s weakened vision began to impair her art, she teamed up with Georgia Webber – another Canadian artist who specializes in the graphic medicine genre – to help round out her experience from trauma to triumph. Dancing After TEN represents an extraordinary testament to Chong’s indomitable spirit."
