Clown Town
by Mick Herron
Buy on AmazonFor me, the question hanging over the ninth outing for Mick Herron’s band of misfit spies in British intelligence was: Have the Slow Horses jumped the shark? Would the boorishness (and flatulence) of Jackson Lamb – played to perfection by Gary Oldman in the TV series – now seem formulaic? Would the bumbling ineptness of his team feel tiresome? Happily, the answer is no. Clown Town sparkles with the razor-sharp humor, complicated characters and drum-tight narrative that have marked the other eight books in the series. This one involves a secret left in the library of a legendary, but now deceased spy and how Lamb and his crew … Well, it doesn’t really matter. The book is funny, relevant and absolutely delightful.
