Blood Test: A Comedy

"Imagine taking a blood test and being informed that you’re a ticking time bomb, a murderer-in-waiting who’s about to explode. That’s what happens to mild-mannered insurance salesman Brock Hobson in Charles Baxter’s latest – a send-up of the current political climate, masculinity and the corporatization of medicine. It seems strange to say this about a novel with a major character who gets badly injured (and deserves it), but this is one of the funniest books of the year – and it’s pretty impressive that it’s also written with real heart."
