"Best of Friends follows Zahra and Maryam’s friendship through their teenage years in Karachi and mid-40s in London, from being inseparable in school to recognizing important differences in their politics and ideas of justice later in life. On the face of it, they couldn’t be more different – sensible but impulsive Zahra and privileged but street-smart Maryam – and over time, their shared experiences are no longer enough. The novel explores how lifelong friendships follow different rules: We are tied to our childhood friends, not because they share our values or interests but because they are a part of our history."
