An American Story

"“How do you tell a story that starts in Africa and ends in horror?” Around the U.S. right now, some towns and states are challenging children’s books that dare to show a more complicated vision of our American past. Fortunately, our kids have brave histories like this one to double down and show just how much complexity can be packed into a single picture book. It’s slavery, but explained with the honesty our children deserve.
