"Archibald Isaac Ferguson is born on March 3, 1947, at the start of Paul Auster’s miraculous 4 3 2 1. After that, this book splits into four narratives as the same boy lives out four different lives, shaped by notable events such as the assassination of JFK, riots in New York and the student revolt at Columbia. Each Ferguson makes different decisions and follows different passions. It’s a massive book (866 pages!), but try it anyway: Auster pulls it off with tenderness and skill and adds a delightful twist at the end as a reward for finally arriving."
